Frequently Asked Questions

What is On the Table Action Challenge?

The On the Table event will return for its fourth installment Feb. 1 through 15, 2023, but with a twist. We’re issuing the On the Table Action Challenge, encouraging residents of Summit and Medina counties to take part in seven tasks — form reading articles and stories to attending community arts events or patronizing a local business. The challenge will culminate with a one-on-one conversation with a community member you wouldn’t typically interact with, along with completing an online survey.

Our goal is to bring together local residents to discuss how we can build, sustain and improve our community. With this particular event, we hope that residents will go outside of their comfort zones and be receptive to learning about new viewpoints and ideas. We also hope that participating in the challenge will help you learn about ways to help bring about more diversity and equity, along with ideas for improving the community.

Why should I participate?

Our goal is to assemble local residents to discuss how we can enhance and sustain our community. It’s our hope that through taking this challenge, some of your own ideas and perceptions can be expanded and diversified. As another incentive, those who complete the challenge check list items between Feb. 1 and 15 will be entered to win a donation to the nonprofit agency of your choice.

How can I find a conversation partner for “Engage”?

For your one-on-one conversation, we encourage you to meet with a community member you wouldn’t typically interact with*. We encourage participants to meet in public or safe and easily accessible areas if you’re meeting with someone you don’t know well. There also will be some community conversations that residents may participate in, which will be posted to the website and they become available.

How can I get involved?

You can register for the challenge here at our website. You also may download a copy of the Action Challenge checklist here. You can also work with friends or colleagues to host a gathering of your own for your one-on-one discussion.
